This is another one of thse dates in history where everybody knows where they were and what they were doing. June 17th, 1994, after O. J. Simpson failed to turn himself into police at 11am west coast time, an all points bulletin was issued. Around 6:45pm local time, O.J.’s white Bronco was spotted on an L.A. freeway. His friend, Al Cowlings was at the wheel. More than 20 patrol cars followed the Bronco doing only 35 mph. Thousands of onlookers packed area overpasses waving at the “Juice” and giving the event a circus like atmosphere. The world watched on all the major networks and CNN. NBC continued its coverage of the 5th game of the NBA finals between Nicks and the Rockets in a small box while the majority of the screen showed Tom Brokaw covering the chase. O.J. of course was wanted in connection with the murder of his wife Nicole and her friend Ron Goldman. He was aquitted in the criminal case but found guilty in a subsequent civil trial. He is now serving time in prison for a botched robbery of his own memorabilia in Las Vegas. Watching this low speed chase again reminded me of how guilty O.J. actually was.
